The five men sat next to each other in uncomfortable looking chairs on a raised stage that faced a larger, lower stage. The Bishop and the Rabbi looked weary and a little bored. The rest were eager, happy to be there, practically shaking with excitement.
"Reverend Tidings," began Miss Roc, "who is Jesus?"
"Jesus is Lord. Hallelujah!" One section of the audience cheered madly.
"Okay. Bishop Salacci, who is Jesus?"
"The Son of God. The Son of Man."
"Thank you. Rabbi Handgould, who is Jesus?"
The Rabbi stroked his ear thoughtfully. "Jesus was a Jew." Scattered gasps and boos.
"Mmm..." said Miss Roc. "Interesting. Jerry, what do you say? Who is Jesus?"
"He is the God of the white race-"
"Mohammed," she said, cutting off Jerry. "Who is Jesus?"
"Like he said. God of the white man." Another, smaller, section of the audience cheered. Other people booed.
"Well," said Miss Roc cheerfully, "we've got an hour. Let's see if
we can sort this out."
